DIY Projector for your smartphone

Have you been in this circumstances where you and your friends are having a movie marathon in your phone and you just wish that you can watch the movies in a bigger screen so you can all enjoy it. But you probably can’t because neither of you own a TV?

Worry no more, because we will gonna teach you how to do your own projector for your mobile phone.

Here’s what you need to get going. A shoe box, tape or a glue gun, magnifying glass, cutter or knife, paper clip and of course your mobile phone.

Now if you get all you need, then follow the steps below:

1. Trace a hole on your shoe box.

b

Get your shoe box, magnifying glass and a pencil. Now trace the outer edge of your magnifying glass on one of the smaller part of your shoe box using your pencil

2. Cut a hole on your shoe box

b

Now get your knife or cutter and cut off the trace you’ve made earlier. Be sure that you’re cutting the exact trace because this is crucial for the next step.

3. Attach the magnifying glass

b

If you’ve managed to execute the previous step correctly, then this will be a simple step.

Get your magnifying glass and try to fit it on the hole you just cut earlier. Now, if your magnifying glass has a handle, then you might want to remove it.

Once you’re satisfied, use glue gun or your tape to mount the magnifying glass on the shoe box. (If this is a temporary project, I suggest you use the tape and wrap it around the side of your magnifying glass)

4. Create a phone stand

b

Get your paper clip and create a phone stand out of it. But if you already have a phone stand then you can skip this step. As long as your phone stand can fit in the box.

Note: Your phone should stand 90 degrees to project proper image towards your magnifying glass.

5. Setup your phone

b

All this hard work will go to waste if you didn’t setup your phone correctly. So, to get the best out of it, you must configure your phone.

  • Set your screen brightness to maximum. This will project better image quality for your projector.
  • Your screen should be up side down while playing a video. The science behind this is that the magnifying glass will eventually invert the image that will be projected on the wall.
  • Find the right focus. Like most of the projectors out there, this one needs to be calibrated too. To do so, adjust the distance of your phone to the projector lens (magnifying glass). Find the perfect focus while your moving you’re phone back and fort.

Be sure to use it on a dark room( like a theater ) for better image quality.

And there you have it! A projector for your mobile phone. Now you can enjoy watching movies with your friends again in the big screen.

How can a Potato power a clock?

How can a Potato power a clock?

Has anyone wondering how can a potato power a clock? Yah, If you were watching kids science show before, then you must have seen a potato clock. You maybe wondering before, Is it a trick clock? or a trick potato?. Well, it’s neither. Let me explain to you how it works. But before that, let me tell you how to do the experiment first.

Okay, so all you need for this little experiment are potatoes, a copper, (could be a penny or anything copper), zinc plated metal ( Galvanized nail ) and the clock that you need to power to with the potato.

What you need to do is plug in your copper and zinc plated metal to the potato, then get a wire and attach the positive terminal of the clock to the copper and negative on the zinc plated metal. And there you go. You just powered a clock by a potato.

So how did the potato powered the clock?

Potato have a compound called phosphoric acid which creates a chemical reaction to copper and zinc. The copper reacts to the phosphoric acid and trips electrons from the copper and attaches them to the Hydrogen ions (2H+) in the phosphoric acid. This depletes the electrons on the copper electrode which makes it wanting for more. This process will create Hydrogen gas.

While the zinc plated metal is needed for the other chemical reaction. The acid in the potato dissolves the zinc and then it liberates the electron on the Zinc atoms. The liberated electrons stay on the electrodes and the Zinc ions transforms into the acidic juices of the potato. This process will result in excess of electrons on the metal plated zinc electrodes. If a electric conductor is connected between the copper and zinc electrodes, the electrons will flow. This will eventually power your potato clock.

If you want, you can always get more potatoes and connect it in series to produce more voltage.

b

4.After your done, spray it again with water and wipe it with a clean paper towel.

b

5.Repeat instruction 4 until the toothpaste is gone.

b

You can also repeat all this process if you want to make your head light more shinier.

If you’re done cleaning your headlight and you have a spare wax to use. Then apply it to your headlight to protect it from getting dirty faster.

Apply a reasonable amount of wax and leave it for a couple of minutes. Then wipe out the wax with a clean paper towel. And there you go. Clean and Glossy headlight!!!

Please note that this trick will only work if the oxidized part of your cars’ headlight is the outside part. This wont work on the inside.
